Summer Events Impact the Outdoor Clothing Industry
The summer season always brings a major interest in the outdoor clothing industry due to the increase in outdoor events thoughout the UK. Sports stadiums, farmers fields and even disused airfields see thousands of revellers gathering to party and dance for days on end listening to their favourite bands and DJs.
Music festivals such as Glastonbury, that has been around since 1970 with leading bands such as T Rex showcasing their music, attracted 1,500 people and is still going strong, but now attracts approx 135,000 people over the weekend. This major increase in attending music festivals obviously sees many varied styles of outdoor clothing being worn and also sold at the events.
There are certain essentials for anybody attending weekend long festivals to take with them, the most important piece of outdoor equipment being a tent. The majority of people want to travel as lightly as possible, so taking a rucksack to pack a tent and any related outdoor accessories such as cooking stoves, cutlery and clothing makes perfect sense.
One thing that the British summer brings is random weather at the worst times! Glastonbury is notoriously synonymous with lots of rain and the national press often show images year on year of festival attendees wearing outdoor clothing such as lightweight raincoats and waterproof clothing. Of course rain is not always present and the summer also sees lots of sunshine so items such as camouflage clothing, shorts and t shirts are more likely the type of items you would need to pack.
Glastonbury is not the only festival that will see many different styles of outdoor clothing this year, there are hundreds of village, country and local town events that have been organised such as the Southport Weekender, Wychwood Festival and many more family orientated days organised. Whatever your choice of festival or day out in the summer of 2011 may be, it is without doubt going to be enjoyable and also see many different styles of outdoor fashion in attendance, such is the bond between outdoor events and outdoor clothing
Whatever your chosen fashion style, age or religion, festivals, community events and all forms of celebration bring people together. The great thing about the summer is that people choose to express themselves through outdoor clothing styles completely away from the other three seasons of the year where often protection from the cold and elements is the important factor.
The ever changing global climate is sure to have an impact for years to come on the changing seasons and of course again this will impact the outdoor industry in many ways, it remains to be seen year on year if the long cold winters remain and that the summer seasons become drawn out periods of increased heat and sunshine. Only time will tell.
